The March/April 2013 edition of Orthodontic Practice featured a Continuing Education piece by Dr. Brad Edgren. The article illustrated the effects of upper airway obstruction upon the growing orthodontic patient. Upper airway obstruction (UAO) includes any abnormal condition of the nose, mouth, throat, or larynx that interferes with normal respiration. Impaired nasal respiration can have a significant impact upon the normal development of the face; having a profoundly negative influence on facial development.
